Art basin refers to a ceramic basin used for washing hands or faces in the bathroom.
Art basin refers to a ceramic basin used for washing hands or faces in the bathroom. It is different from ordinary white ceramic bathroom basins and generally refers to high-temperature ceramic washbasins produced in Jingdezhen, China.
Most high-end art pots are handmade, using Jingdezhen's unique kaolin and traditional porcelain making techniques. The firing temperature ranges from 1280 degrees to 1350 degrees, the porcelain surface is wear-resistant, the glaze is completely vitrified, and the water absorption rate reaches zero. The content and means of decoration have infinite possibilities.
Before the 21st century, Chinese bathroom ceramics were all uniformly white faced, and people were accustomed to thinking that bathroom ceramics were all white. The ceramic products seen in the market were also all white. No one thought that the basin in the bathroom could be made into something like an artwork, and this habitual thinking began to be broken at the beginning of the 21st century.
The earliest appearance of a basin that combines the craftsmanship and decorative methods of ceramic art was in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi in 2002. At that time, this type of basin, which was different from traditional white ceramics, had not yet been given a definite name. The high-temperature colored glazed basin in the market had not been given more attention, and people were still accustomed to the fact that bathroom porcelain must be white and provided by the manufacturer, without the need for brainpower to redesign and install directly. This kind of mindset led to people's expectations for bathroom decoration mostly being focused on enhancing functionality or cleanliness and simplicity, and personality had not yet been considered in the bathroom at this time.
In 2004, Jingshen Ceramics began to experiment and expand in the field of high-temperature glazed ceramic basins, and proposed the concept of "non white bathroom". At the same time, various workshop owners in Jingdezhen also sensed new market information, and noodle basins began to appear in workshops producing traditional ceramic vases. In kilns, colored noodle basins began to be burned together with traditional vases in high temperature kilns above 1300 degrees Celsius. As the number of art pots in the market gradually increases, the names of art pots are slowly emerging. In the Guangdong region, Foshan, the concentration of Chinese bathroom ceramics, a large number of people wholesale high-temperature colored ceramic bathroom basins from Jingdezhen, and then set up wholesale and retail points in the local area. Because it was different from traditional white ceramic bathroom, the three words "artistic basin" were gradually fixed. From then on, the three words "artistic basin" began to spread in southern China, from Jingdezhen to Guangdong, and then to various parts of the country, from factories to wholesalers, and even to homeowners. Artistic basin has become a universal term.
The emergence of art pots conforms to the trend. With the promotion of personalized home decoration concepts, some people who have received higher education, pay attention to traditional Chinese culture, and value independence and individuality are the first group of people to use art pots. At the same time, with the guidance of high-quality and discerning interior designers, this group of people is growing stronger. Personalized home decoration and DIY decoration have become a major trend. At this time, traditional matching white bathrooms can no longer meet the requirements of this group of people who strongly demand individuality and even uniqueness. They need to choose their own style, match their own colors, and create their own bathroom life. Therefore, colored ceramic art pots have become their best choice.
